About the Rescue Diver Course

The PADI Rescue Diver course is often described by divers as the most challenging yet most rewarding program in recreational diving. Building on your existing skills, this course trains you to handle both minor and major dive emergencies with confidence.

You'll learn how to prevent problems before they occur, respond effectively to emergencies, and assist other divers in need. Through a mix of theory, confined water sessions, and open water rescue scenarios, you'll master skills that can make the difference in saving a life.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Prerequisites for the PADI Rescue Diver course

Certification Requirements

Minimum Certification

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or Junior Advanced Open Water Diver) certification, or equivalent from another organization

Age Requirement

Must be at least 12 years old

First Aid Training

Completed Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary and Secondary Care training (or equivalent first aid/CPR training) within the past 24 months

Medical Requirements

Medical Fitness

Medically fit to dive as per the PADI Medical Form. A "yes" answer to any condition requires a doctor's clearance

Age Consideration

As per Andaman regulations, divers over 50 must present a valid medical certificate for scuba diving

Physical Readiness

Good physical condition to handle potential rescue scenarios

How long does the Rescue Diver course take?

The course typically takes 3-4 days to complete, including knowledge development, confined water sessions, and open water rescue scenarios. The exact duration may vary based on your pace and schedule.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer for this course?

While you don't need to be an Olympic swimmer, good swimming ability and comfort in the water are important. You should be able to swim 200 meters without stopping and tread water for 10 minutes.

What equipment is required for the course?

You'll need standard scuba equipment plus a pocket mask for rescue breathing practice. All equipment can be rented from our dive center if you don't have your own.

Is the Rescue Diver course physically demanding?

The course can be physically challenging as it involves practicing rescue techniques that may require swimming while assisting another diver. However, our instructors ensure the training is progressive and tailored to each diver's abilities.

Why is Emergency First Response training required?

First aid and CPR skills are essential components of dive rescue. The EFR course provides these vital skills, ensuring you're prepared to handle medical emergencies both in and out of the water.

Can I take the course if I have a disability?

Many divers with disabilities successfully complete the Rescue Diver course. We evaluate each situation individually to ensure we can provide appropriate training while maintaining safety standards.
